The article of October 23rd on the website
of the United Arab Emirates "National News", the original question:
What makes the number of electric vehicle charging piles in this province of
China exceed that in the whole United States?
For electric vehicle owners in China, the
mileage anxiety has become a thing of the past. In recent years, hundreds of
thousands of public charging piles equivalent to "refueling pumps" of
electric vehicles have been built in this coastal province.
According to the data of China Electric
Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance, by the end of September,
Guangdong had the largest electric vehicle charging network in China, including
345,126 public charging piles and 19,116 charging stations, more than double
that of a year ago. According to the data provided by Bloomberg New Energy
Finance, this is about three times the number of public charging piles in the
United States.
In order to promote the electrification
process of their fleets, governments all over the world are trying to rapidly
launch and expand their public charging infrastructure. However, the United
States and Europe are far behind China in building their own charging networks.
Relevant analysis shows that by the end of 2021, 112,900 public charging piles
were installed in the United States and 442,000 in Europe, compared with 1.15
million in China. This gap will only widen. In the past 12 months, 592,000 new
public charging piles have been built in China, exceeding the total number that
the Biden administration wants the United States to have by 2030.
According to the documents issued by China
National Development and Reform Commission and other departments in January,
the China government plans to build the charging infrastructure to meet the
demand of 20 million electric vehicles by 2025. China's efforts to build green
infrastructure are paying off. Nowadays, China's domestic demand for clean cars
dwarfs that of Europe and America. One-fourth of all new cars purchased in
China are new energy vehicles, and the sales of such vehicles are expected to reach
a record 6 million this year.
In Guangdong, ubiquitous charging
facilities are also increasing the number of electric vehicles. According to
the statistics of Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Statistics, the sales of new
energy vehicles in this province increased by 151% in the first half of this
year. Today, there are more than 1.4 million electric vehicles in Guangdong,
accounting for the highest proportion in the country. "With the increase
of charging devices, the mileage anxiety is decreasing," said David Zhang,
an auto industry analyst. "Having so many charging devices is definitely a
breakthrough, but we must remember that charging is still slower than
refueling. This is the real obstacle at present. "
Guangdong province is also doubling its
bets on the electric vehicle manufacturing industry. Today, one out of every
eight new energy vehicles sold in China comes from that province. From January
to July this year, the output of local electric vehicles more than doubled year
on year. Zhang said that strong production capacity can also produce spillover
effects, improve customer experience and after-sales service, and even lower
the selling price in the province.
